Early 19th Century Cut steel necklace in a graduated star motif. Pieces like this are sometimes referred to as ‘Milky Way’ necklaces. Beautifully preserved with a bright gray sparkle. Most likely English in Origin.
Steel Jewelry was introduced in the mid 1700’s. Its popularity was spurred by the French Revolution. Used as an effective diamond imitation, the desire for the dark gray sparkle endured well into the 19th century. This piece is most likely English in origin and each steel rivet maintains its original brightness.
