Bailey Banks and Biddle has a lengthy history in the American Jewelry industry with origins in Philadelphia as early as 1832. By the turn of the 20th century, they were one of the most renowned firms in the US. In 1916 they were chosen to update The Great Seal of The United States, which remains the official version of the seal today. The company also designed the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Silver and Bronze Stars, and designed and produced the first 40,000 purple hearts awarded for military honors.
