Rare iron ring circa 1914. This was a ring made when gold was given to raise money for the treasury during World War I.
Gold gab ich fur eisen translates to I gave gold for iron It is a patriotic symbol and a piece of social history. A woman would have given her gold wedding band and been given this iron ring in exchange. See similar ring at the Imperial Wars Museum in London.
This rare ring was part of a large German collection exhibited at the Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus Hanau Museum in 2011.
