19th century old mine cut diamond drop earrings, in 18k gold settings. Cushion shaped old mine cut diamonds, approximately 0.50 carats each, I/J color and SI1 clarity. The diamonds are set in 6 prong claw settings, with floral and foliage details.
Each earring is fit with a spherical coach cover. Covers such as these were designed to disguise diamonds earrings that were worn while traveling in an open carriage. Hinged at the bottom, the earring covers are easily snapped on or taken off, providing a second look for the earrings. English in origin. Circa 1890.
Measures 1.50″ in drop length. On gold french hook earrings.
