Victorian era mourning earrings. Circa 1840/60. Beautiful tear drop form in 18k gold natural pearls and black enamel. There is a central locket compartment that would have contained finely woven hair. It now contains a bit of fabric.
A very sentimental pair of earrings as the Victorians used seed pearls to signify tears. Day and night in design so the drop is easily removed to wear the tops alone. 18k gold. Original Back-to-front ear closure. Full earring drop measures approximately 1.75″.
